Responsibilities:

  • Assist a caseload of clients with accessing government benefits including but not limited to Medicaid and homecare service requests.
  • Conduct assessments of clients’ needs for benefits or homecare assistance through in-home and telephonic consultation, collaborating with family members to assist evaluate the client.
  • Assist with the completion of JCCGCI and funder-required client intake certification documentation.
  • Provide education and guidance to clients and their families around the appeals process, file appeals on behalf of clients, and represent clients at fair hearings.
  • Maintain ongoing contact with clients.
  • Document all encounters in JCCGCI’s database in a timely fashion.
  • Assist with special projects as needed.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Science/Human Service related field.

The Jewish Community Council of Greater Coney Island’s Trauma Recovery Center (JCCGCI’s TRC) is dedicated to promoting equality, justice, and healing in our community. We are committed to providing support and resources to individuals affected by violence and trauma. Our mission is to create a safe and inclusive environment that fosters healing and growth.

The Trauma Therapist will play a vital role in delivering therapeutic and clinical case management services. The ideal candidate will possess strong case management skills, clinical expertise, and the ability to work effectively with survivors of violent crimes and trauma. The Trauma Therapist will provide ongoing mental health and case management services and monitor their assigned caseload while ensuring the proper coordination of all services.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide in-office therapeutic counseling to adults and families, with home visits as needed.
  • Provide culturally responsive (trauma-informed and social justice lens) comprehensive assessments and develop quarterly service plans for individuals and families.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team including but not limited to TRC staff, outreach workers, health educators, law enforcement etc.
  • Develop and facilitate groups designed to meet the needs of participants.
  • Monitor participants’ treatment and comply with all required documentation.
  • Ensure continuity of services for participants and collaborate with external aid sources.
  • Train community leaders in mental health facilitation.
  • Present clinical issues and research found at the center to community groups

Qualifications:

  • Licensed: LMSW, LCSW, LMHC, LMFT, or equivalent by the state of New York.
  • Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling or related field.
  • Experience working with survivors of violent crime and trauma.
  • Multicultural competence and training, including but not limited to critical race theory.
  • Specialty and training in psychological trauma and PTSD.
  • Excellent writing skills, and ability to submit documentation on a set timeline.
