On September 10, we were honored to welcome New York City Mayor Eric Adams to our Coney Island Seaside Older Adult Center. His visit was a celebration of community, connection, and the incredible spirit of our older adults.
Mayor Adams toured the Coney Island Seaside Center and met with our dedicated JCCGCI staff and leadership, including Grace Brandi, our Supervising Older Adult Center Director who oversees all of JCCGCI’s Older Adult Centers. He spent time greeting our fiscal, HR, social work, and program teams, and most importantly, he connected directly with the older adults we proudly serve every day.
During his visit, Mayor Adams joined in a lively game of ping pong and observed older adults enjoying other favorite activities—including pool, dance, arts, and mahjong—showcasing the vibrant and engaging environment that makes the Coney Island Seaside Older Adult Center so special. He also took time to tour the space and learn about the wide variety of programs offered to older adults in Coney Island and beyond.
We were especially grateful that during this busy election season, Mayor Adams also stopped by our Rosh Hashana Food Distribution. There, he spoke with older adults and Holocaust survivors who were in line to receive holiday food packages, witnessing firsthand how JCCGCI is working to ensure no one in our community feels forgotten during the holidays.
We are thankful for Mayor Adams’ visit, which highlighted not only the vitality of our Older Adult Centers but also the essential services and compassionate community that define JCCGCI.
