February Highlights 2026

February was another impactful month at JCCGCI. From community partnerships to citywide recognition, these stories highlight the programs and people making a difference every day.

More than 110,000 rides. Over 6,000 older adults served. A record-breaking year for JCCGCI’s Transportation Program. From medical appointments & grocery shopping to older adult centers and family visits, these rides help older adults remain independent, and active in their communities.

Rabbi Moshe Wiener has been named to City & State’s 2026 50 Over 50 "Age Disruptors" list, recognizing leaders making a lasting impact across New York. This honor highlights his decades of leadership at JCCGCI and the continued growth of programs serving thousands of individuals and families across the city.

Language can open doors to opportunity, independence, and community. Through JCCGCI’s Adult Literacy program, hundreds of immigrant adults across New York City are gaining the English skills needed to pursue employment, support their families, and fully participate in their communities.

Recognizing the people who work every day to keep our communities safe. From violence interrupters responding to crises at all hours to outreach workers building trust on the ground, JCCGCI’s Operation H.O.O.D. program plays a critical role in prevention and community safety across Brooklyn. This story highlights the powerful work behind the citywide CMS gathering and the dedication of those on the front lines of violence prevention.

Citywide recognition highlights the powerful impact of JCCGCI’s community programs. From the Trauma Recovery Center (TRC) to the Building Resilience in Youth (BRY) program, these initiatives continue to provide critical support to individuals and families across our community.

Coney Island is known for its iconic boardwalk and historic attractions, but its story runs far deeper. From generations of immigrant communities to the organizations that have supported them, this piece explores the history of Coney Island and how JCCGCI became a vital pillar of support for the neighborhood and beyond.

About JCCGCI:

Jewish Community Council of Greater Coney Island (JCCGCI) is a community-based organization with a citywide scope, providing a wide-spectrum of senior citizen, career, educational, crime-reduction, mental health, community revitalization and related services benefiting all segments of the population. JCCGCI is also a technical assistance provider, offering capacity building services to nonprofits in all five boroughs through its NonProfit HelpDesk division (www.nphd.org). With 40 program sites throughout New York City staffed by almost 400 social service professionals, JCCGCI assists an average of upwards of 2,500 needy individuals and families each day.

JCCGCI’s Holocaust Survivor Support Services is one of the largest in the world, providing critical assistance to over 4,000 Holocaust Survivors annually. Services include Homecare, Transportation, Case Management, Friendly Visiting, Medicaid Appeals, Socialization, and Home Delivered Meals.
