JCCGCI HOSTS ITS FIRST-EVER EMPLOYEE WELLNESS EVENT

At JCCGCI, we know that caring for others begins with caring for ourselves. On June 16, approximately 50 staff members from across the organization gathered at the Marien Heim Older Adult Center for JCCGCI’s first-ever Employee Wellness Event, an afternoon dedicated to rest, connection, learning, and self-care. The event brought together employees from programs & departments throughout the agency, creating an opportunity to step away from daily responsibilities and focus on personal wellness.
The afternoon began with a delicious lunch and an opportunity for colleagues to reconnect, meet new team members, and enjoy time together outside of the workplace. Throughout the event, staff participated in a variety of activities designed to promote relaxation, mindfulness, and overall well-being.

Adding to the relaxing atmosphere, staff had the opportunity to spend time with five adorable puppies, whose playful energy brought smiles and laughter throughout the afternoon. Employees also participated in a hands-on wellness activity, creating their own custom bath salts using herbs and essential oils and taking home a personalized self-care keepsake.
Attendees were also treated to a live cooking demonstration featuring nutritious Mediterranean-inspired power bowls. The presentation highlighted simple, delicious, and healthy meal options that can easily be incorporated into busy schedules, reinforcing the important connection between nutrition and wellness.

A key component of the afternoon was a thoughtful and engaging wellness presentation led by Dr. Dulande Louis, PhD, LCSW, SIFI, Managing Director of JCCGCI’s Trauma Recovery Center and Mental Health Services. The presentation explored the importance of workplace wellness, recognizing signs of burnout and compassion fatigue, and developing practical strategies for self-care and stress management. Staff also participated in breathing exercises, grounding techniques, and wellness reflections designed to promote resilience and emotional well-being.

Throughout the afternoon, employees were encouraged to pause, recharge, and reflect on the importance of maintaining balance while working in helping professions. The event underscored JCCGCI’s commitment not only to serving the community, but also to supporting the dedicated staff members who make that work possible every day.
The celebration concluded with a raffle drawing, wellness gifts for all attendees, and plenty of opportunities for staff to connect with one another. Each participant received a gift bag filled with wellness essentials, including self-care items designed to encourage relaxation and continued wellness beyond the event.

JCCGCI extends its sincere gratitude to everyone who helped make this special day possible. Most importantly, thank you to every staff member who attended and contributed to the positive energy that made the day such a success. We look forward to building on this wonderful beginning and continuing to create opportunities that support the health, wellness, and happiness of the JCCGCI family.
