Services For
Holocaust Survivors
JCCGCI does its utmost to enable Holocaust survivors to continue to maintain their independence as long as possible and with dignity. While these vulnerable, frail, low-income Nazi-victims are eligible for programs specific to Holocaust survivors, we also avail them of our general senior services to meet their unique needs.
The following services are offered to Holocaust survivors residing throughout the borough of Brooklyn:
Homecare
JCCGCI provides intensive home care assistance for Holocaust survivors. Those eligible can receive care based on an in-depth assessment of their needs and disabilities. Services provided include personal care (such as assistance with bathing, dressing and grooming), meal preparation, laundry, shopping and light housekeeping.
Transportation
Holocaust survivors (primarily non-Medicaid eligible) who, due to physical impairments or fear of crime, have difficulty using public transportation and are too poor to afford private car services are offered transportation to medical and other essential services and appointments on a scheduled or demand-responsive basis.
Connect2
Connect2 offers volunteer-based home visiting services to Holocaust survivors, providing respite from isolation and a means of addressing their individual needs. These visits foster valuable, relationships that afford survivors opportunities to share their stories and maintain fulfilling lives
Club 2600
Club 2600 is a monthly socialization session for mobile Holocaust survivors and is located at our Jay Harama Senior Center. Our welcoming meetings include interactive presentations, meals, dancing, entertainment and entitlement counseling that help Holocaust survivors socialize and build relationships.
Case Management Services
Licensed social workers and case workers help survivors obtain and maintain benefits that they may otherwise have no way of accessing.
Sunday Senior Center Program
Those who rely on senior centers for meals during the week and need continued nutrition assistance on Sundays when government-funded senior centers are generally closed can enjoy congregate meals, socialization and entertainment at our Haber House Senior Center, or receive home delivered meals.
Homebound Meals
Homebound Holocaust survivors who require meals at home, on the weekend, during evenings and on holidays receive nutritious meals delivered right to their place of residence.
Medicaid Advocacy
Individualized advocacy on behalf of Holocaust survivors in need of intensive homecare, enabling them to age gracefully in place.
