RINGING IN THE NEW YEAR TOGETHER: HOLIDAY JOY ACROSS JCCGCI’S OLDER ADULT CENTERS
December is always a special time at JCCGCI’s Older Adult Centers, and this past holiday season was no exception. Across our centers, older adults came together to celebrate, connect, and welcome the new year surrounded by warmth, music, and friendship. These gatherings were about far more than parties—they were about community, belonging, and ensuring that every older adult felt seen, valued, and joyful during the holidays.
At JCCGCI’s Midwood Older Adult Center, the holiday spirit was in full swing during a beautifully attended celebration held on December 21, with approximately 50 older adults in attendance. Guests enjoyed festive nonalcoholic bloody marys and mimosas, along with a delicious holiday meal, as friends gathered to celebrate together. The room was filled with social music, dancing, and lively conversation throughout the afternoon. Special live trumpet entertainment by Gaston brought extra energy and joy, drawing smiles and applause from the crowd. The celebration reflected the warmth, connection, and sense of community that the Midwood center fosters year-round.
JCCGCI’s Marlboro Older Adult Center hosted an especially memorable holiday party on December 22, welcoming approximately 150 older adults for a truly festive event. With a delicious lunch served, upbeat music filling the room, and a dance floor that stayed busy throughout the afternoon, the celebration was a standout. Raffles, gifts, refreshments, and snacks added to the excitement, making it a joyful and meaningful gathering for all who attended.

JCCGCI’s Older Adult Centers serve as vital hubs of connection, support, and enrichment for older adults throughout our community. Through daily programming, social activities, meals, cultural events, and holiday celebrations like these, our centers help combat isolation and ensure that older adults remain active, engaged, and connected year-round.

As we reflect on these holiday moments, we are reminded that ringing in the new year is best done together. We are proud to serve such vibrant communities at each of our centers and look forward to many more moments of joy, celebration, and togetherness in the year ahead.

Holiday programming also plays a critical role in combating loneliness during a season that can be especially difficult for some older adults. By bringing people together through music, food, laughter, and shared tradition, JCCGCI’s Older Adult Centers ensure that no one has to celebrate alone. These events honor not only the holidays, but the lives, experiences, and contributions of the older adults we are privileged to serve.
Throughout the year, JCCGCI’s Older Adult Centers (OACs) serve as vibrant hubs of connection, care, and purpose for older adults across our community. Beyond holiday celebrations, the OACs offer daily programming that supports socialization, wellness, and independence. This ranges from educational workshops, fitness and movement classes, and creative arts, to communal meals, cultural programming, group trips, and meaningful peer connection. For many participants, the centers are a consistent source of routine and belonging, helping to reduce isolation while fostering friendships, dignity, and engagement. These programs ensure that older adults are supported not only during special moments, but every single day of the year.
We extend our deepest gratitude to all of our funders, especially NYC Aging, whose generosity makes this meaningful programming possible, and to the dedicated staff at each of our Older Adult Centers who worked tirelessly to bring these celebrations to life. Their care, creativity, and commitment ensure that every detail—from the music to the meals—reflects warmth, dignity, and respect. Thanks to their efforts, hundreds of older adults were able to ring in the new year feeling connected, celebrated, and truly at home within the JCCGCI community.
