JCCGCI offers English as a Second Language classes for senior immigrants from any ethnicity, primarily to residents of southern Brooklyn. We offer legal and social work support in attaining legal papers related to citizenship.
Seniors needing services are identified by staff at JCCGCI senior centers, and registered for the classes, which are offered at our senior centers as well as those of other programs that need ESL.
Our instructors are all certified teachers with degrees. They are sensitive to the cultures and customs of our diverse community, including our Jewish/Russian and Chinese populations.
In addition to teaching ESL, our instructors help clients by translating or explaining legal or personal documents, including phone consultations as appropriate.
JCCGCI’s Senior ESL & Citizen program serves 80 to 100 clients each year.
