We are delighted to report that the prestigious The Pinkerton Foundation has approved a $105,000 allocation in support of our Horizons Academy.
Since 2006, our Horizons Academy, a division of JCCGCI’s Educational Support Systems, has been providing programming to financially and academically disadvantaged youth in Abraham Lincoln Public High School in Coney Island, offering academic and career counseling services for successful transition into adulthood.
Our Horizons Academy uses a strength-based, case management approach to support the academic and career preparation needs of students. Curriculum includes small group SAT preparation, college counseling, career workshops, internships and job preparation.
We are appreciative to Laurie R. Dien, Senior Program Officer, to Jennifer Correa, Program Officer and to Erickson S. Blakney, Program Officer at The Pinkerton Foundation for the immense amount of time, guidance and support they provided during this application process, which included an intensive site visit on 4/7/14.

NonProfit Execs Invest in Themselves
Brooklyn, NY, December 11, 2013 – On Monday, December 9, Jonathan Bissell, Director of Continuing Education, awarded certificates to dozens of area nonprofit executives for their completion of the Organizational Reboot Series (ORS). The program, sponsored by JP Morgan Chase Foundation and the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), trains nonprofit executives in key management strategies to navigate a brutal economy. Organizational Reboot Series (ORS) is a series of four workshops that train nonprofit executives in organizational assessment, strategic planning, branding and marketing, and execution.

JCCGCI’s “Friendly Visiting NY” provides visits to frail, homebound Home-Delivered Meals recipients through an army of volunteers and social work interns. This homebound visitation program is funded by Citymeals-on-Wheels and Leader Family Fund. See the program’s own website at: www.friendlyvisitingny.org
Last year, JCCGCI provided 5,689 friendly visits to 464 homebound elderly (all funding sources combined).
