THE RIGHT PROGRAM
…
…FOR THE RIGHT PERSON
The Jewish Community Council’s Vocational Support
System has separate programs for individual categories
of clients:
- DISLOCATED WORKER PROGRAM
A dislocated worker is someone who has been recently
laid off from a job after working for a significant
period of time. Funded by the New York City Department
of Small Business Services, the Dislocated Worker
Program will provide every service that could help
an unemployed individual regain their place in the
job market.
- TARGETED ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
The Targeted Assistance Program (TAG) offers the full
gamut of vocational services to unemployed men or
women who come under the official classification of
refugees (immigrants who legally left their native
countries and settled in the United States) and asylees
(those who escaped government-sanctioned persecution
in a foreign country to become residents of the United
States). It is funded by BRIA and the New York State
Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance.
In 2003, nearly three hundred dislocated workers
and unemployed refugees benefited from Vocational Support
Systems’ occupational training in computer- and
medical-related fields, along with subsequent employment
counseling and job placement services. From this group,
the program successfully placed 125 clients in gainful
employment, with many other placements pending. |
