IPS creates tiered internship experiences (subsidized, unpaid, paid) for NYC Cash Assistance (CA) recipients enrolled in HRA-approved educational programs.
Internship assignments are based on client work history, job credentials, field of study, study schedules, geographic limitations, and time and life constraints.
The model is flexible, strengths-based, and client-centered. It seeks to transition CA recipients from dependence to self-sufficiency by:
IPS advances clients wherever possible from unpaid and subsidized internships to paid internships at private and nonprofit organizations and/or jobs on their career path.
The program is readily accessible to HRA clients citywide with services provided at three centrally located sites in the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Manhattan.
On-site financial counseling is provided by New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG) which provides similar services through the HRA/OFE Jobs Plus and Single Stop programs, among others. NYLAG helps IPS clients to attain financial stability by establishing credit, reducing debt, and building saving plans.
The Internship Placement Services program (IPS) is a redesign of the College and Related Experience (CARE) Work Experience Program (WEP). JCCGCI merited to serve as the pioneering developer and sole citywide provider of CARE WEP for eighteen (18) years (since 7/1/98), amidst exemplary performance ratings from HRA and acclaim from CUNY and other sources.
