JAY SENIOR CITIZENS CENTER
The five senior centers run by the Jewish Community
Council of Greater Coney Island in Brooklyn have become
models of dedication to local older adults. The Jay
Senior Citizens Center, which has been operating for
thirty-four years, continuously refreshes its’
programming to remain appealing to contemporary clientele.
Under the attentive direction of Darlene Foscale, it
has blossomed into a multi-faceted resource for adults
age sixty and over that truly stimulates their nutritional,
recreational and educational needs…and then some.
In addition to two strictly kosher meals daily, the
Jay Senior Citizens Center offers:
- Tai Chi Classes
- Exercise and Fitness Groups
- Arts & Crafts
- Reading & Book Review Groups
- English as a Second Language Classes
- Transportation for Medical & Shopping Purposes
- Support Group for Holocaust Survivors
- Benefits & Entitlements Counseling
- Group Shabbos Meals
- Monthly Themed Parties
Serving one hundred and fifteen seniors daily, the Jay
Center spares no expense to surround them with modern
and appealing facilities. Meals are prepared in a full-service
kitchen, the new elevator is handicapped and wheelchair
accessible, newly established Computer and Internet
Classes utilize state-of-the-art computers in spacious
classrooms, and seniors are free to enjoy such amenities
as cable television and DVD/VHS players.
Located at 2600 Ocean Avenue between Avenues U and
V, the Jay Senior Citizens Center has earned a reputation
as an oasis of support and rejuvenation for older adults.
