Citymeals-on-Wheels “Friendly Visiting”

CITYMEALS-ON-WHEELS “FRIENDLY VISITING” PROGRAM

You can volunteer and make a real difference in a homebound individual’s life in so many different ways!

With Friendly Visiting, you have the chance to create special friendships,
learn new skills and gain new insights.

Clearly, volunteers tend to enjoy a sense of satisfaction and personal fulfillment from helping others. Recent findings suggest that this feeling may be a major reason why many people choose to volunteer. Share life experiences with those who are knowledgeable and experienced.  Our volunteers often have life-changing experiences through the time they offer to the Friendly Visiting program.

Volunteers often act as the eyes and ears of the homebound individuals they visit. A meaningful and helpful activity for the homebound individuals can be something as simple as reading them their mail, a magazine or favorite newspaper column. It is the small, daily living activities that we often take for granted, yet can be such a caring gesture to those in need of assistance.

Volunteer Opportunities

Friendly Visits

This program connects homebound individuals with kind-hearted volunteers like you throughout the borough. Share a smile or song, a hobby or a walk with someone and watch their face light up with joy. Volunteers must be 16 years or older, and be able to commit to a minimum of one hour per week for a six-month period. We carefully match volunteers with homebound individuals based on their common interests, personality and activity level. Our objective is to help you achieve your goal of helping others, and developing everlasting friendships.

Shopping Services

Our team of volunteers helps homebound individuals with light grocery shopping, local errands, and other tasks that they are unable to perform themselves. This great service provides them with convenience and assistance in everyday chores, and in general, makes their lives that much easier.

Senior Chat

Do you enjoy speaking on the phone? If so, this service might be perfect for you! You can have weekly phone conversations with a homebound individual, and can do it from the comfort and privacy of your own home, or on your lunch break in the office.

Creating Greeting Cards

Who doesn't like birthdays? Holidays? Greeting cards? Express your artistic side with a unique card created by you for a special homebound individual and we can guarantee that their face will light up with joy!
