Citymeals Friendly Visiting Event on Sunday December 8, 2013

Happy Holidays from Friendly Visiting!

On December 8th 2013, Friendly Visiting hosted our Annual Senior Celebration. We all shared our thanks to our participating seniors who appreciate and support our services as well as our staff and volunteers. We’re especially thankful and gave praise to our funders, Citymeals-on-Wheels, for allowing our services to continue and reach the many homebound seniors who look forward to their visit every day. Our seniors enjoyed a lovely lunch, mingled with others, enjoyed delightful music and shared the excitement with the winners of our raffle contest!

Vendex Performance Rating for JCCGCI’s Senior Citizen Transportation DFTA Contracts

Vendex Performance Rating for JCCGCI’s Senior Citizen Transportation DFTA Contracts

Please join us in congratulating Avigail Adler and her dedicated staff on the “Good” overall performance rating (equivalent to the “Very Good” rating in the prior system) for our Senior Citizen Transportation Program contracts with DFTA.

Amongst the comments, DFTA wrote: “Program exceeded contracted service levels by 52%.  Program maintained  staff continuity. Program adhered to target populations. All records were accurate.”

Commendation of our College and Related Experience (CARE) Work Experience Program (WEP)

HRA issued their annual Vendex performance evaluation and exhaustive “Contract Monitoring Report” for our CARE WEP program during FY 2013. In the Vendex evaluation, HRA commented, in part:

“Although JCC’s operations were affected by Hurricane Sandy, they were able to secure two temporary locations, moving twice in order to continue to carry out the services in the contract. Despite losing all computer equipment and files, they still submitted deliverables and reports in a timely manner…JCC successfully fulfilled the scope of services required by the contract. They performed well under the added strain of identifying new space for their operations that were affected by Hurricane Sandy. There were no programmatic deficiencies identified during this contract period.”

Please join us in congratulating Elise Wunder and her staff for these accomplishments especially despite the challenging and diverse conditions caused by Hurricane Sandy.

JCCGCI receives award from The Pinkerton Foundation in support of our Horizons Academy college and career preparation program

We are delighted to report that the prestigious The Pinkerton Foundation has approved a $105,000 allocation in support of our Horizons Academy.

Since 2006, our Horizons Academy, a division of JCCGCI’s Educational Support Systems, has been providing programming to financially and academically disadvantaged youth in Abraham Lincoln Public High School in Coney Island, offering academic and career counseling services for successful transition into adulthood.

Our Horizons Academy uses a strength-based, case management approach to support the academic and career preparation needs of students. Curriculum includes small group SAT preparation, college counseling, career workshops, internships and job preparation.

We are appreciative to Laurie R. Dien, Senior Program Officer, to Jennifer Correa, Program Officer and to Erickson S. Blakney, Program Officer at The Pinkerton Foundation for the immense amount of time, guidance and support they provided during this application process, which included an intensive site visit on 4/7/14.

Please join us in congratulating Marissa Sperling and her dedicated staff upon this achievement.
