HealthCare Highways is an innovative program to build a quality pipeline of low income workers into NYCs rapidly expanding health care industry --- NOW and into the future!
With emphasis on youth participants, HCH is led by the Vocational Services of the Jewish Community Council of Greater Coney Island, Inc. (JCCGCI), with the Chinese American Planning Council as its principal partner. HCH is funded by NYS/OTDAs new, ground-breaking workforce development initiative Career Pathways.
Addressing NYCs burgeoning, critical healthcare job shortage, HCH provides state-of-the art training, counseling and job placement to eligible NYC residents at least 17 years of age. Technical skills instructional methodologies are: (1) blended traditional classroom with E-learning approach, and/or (2) Rigorously supervised Distance learning, tightly wrapped-around with mandatory immersion in reading, writing, academic success, and career development skills, tutoring, and career/life planning counseling/coaching with the ultimate goal of retained job placement for sustained self-sufficiency and community productivity. Services are delivered by healthcare training and counseling credentialed experts.
This model has yielded the following results: 90+% training and certification exam pass rates, significantly higher training and job retention, GPAs and NYS certification exam scores --- as compared to non-program participants.
HCHs partners include a host of NYC 5 boro healthcare employers, community based agencies, the NYC Human Resources Administration, and the NYC Workforce1 Career Centers.
Current program offerings are: (1) NYS Certified Emergency Medical Technician-B (basic), with requirement to pass competitive pre-training; (2) NYS certified Nursing Asst., with requirements to pass competitive pre-training, and (3) Industry certified Medical Biller/Coder + Office Admin. skills.
